Sacred and Profane - Tuscania

The 12th-century church of San Pietro lies a little way outside present-day town of Tuscania, in northern Lazio. It was formerly the seat of a bishop, and is flanked by the towers of a former defensive wall. The church is, in terms of the usual conventions, "the wrong way round" - the entrance and main facade face east, while the altar and apse are at the western end.
