Sacred and Profane - Battistero, Parma

The interior of the Battistero of Parma is a riot of Christian imagery. There are frescoes in the dome, showing serried ranks of saints, and more on the walls, illustrating the Biblical narrative. There are also sculptures, both penny plain and twopence coloured, in the niches and galleries. But in amongst all the traditional images, there is one small dragon-like creature - can you find him?

The outside of the Battistero is a bit different - partly surrounding the external wall, on either side of the door, there is, at shoulder height a frieze of creatures, real and mythical, which you can examine via the buttons below.
